For decades, Dedham dominated in Tug of War competition. Popularity of the sport waned, but has recently increased as Dedham held a tug of war exhibition, under the direction of Dan Pomeroy, in conjunction with the Dedham Quasquicentennial.
In 2009 a Tug of War Tournament was held on Saturday, June 27, with an adult and a youth division. A crowd of an estimated 800 was on hand to cheer on their favorite team.
In the adult division, E&F Custom Pumping of Templeton placed first, outpulling second-place Templeton D & D. Dedham Southside placed third.
Dedham took first place in the youth division, outpulling Coon Rapids in a double elimination matchup.
